It is the duty of every Muslim to seek knowledge regardless of the gender. Education is a chief ingredient which not only makes a good Muslim but also a good human being. The importance of education can be observed from the fact that Prophet PBUH used to lay emphasis on every Muslim to impart knowledge to their relatives; not only that of Islam, but also of the contemporary domains, which aligned the Muslims with the non-Muslims in the worldly conducts.

In the battle of Badr, when the captives were asked to pay ransom and they couldn’t, as they didn’t have any money, Prophet PBUH asked them to teach 10 Muslim children to read and write. When the children got proficient on both, only then the prisoners were released from their captivity. Similarly, Hazrat Zaid Bin Sabit RA was told by Prophet PBUH to learn Syriac at one instance, as Prophet PBUH received letters that were written in Syriac.

Indeed, the life of Prophet PBUH is filled with many other instances where Prophet PBUH endorsed the Muslims to get education regarding the contemporary world so that they can compete with the non-Muslims in all spheres of lives.

In view of the teachings of Prophet PBUH, Madarsa Usmania imparts its students with standard education up to the 10th grade. During the 8-year program, the children start from Qaiida when it comes to Quranic education and simultaneously, the basics of the standard curriculum are also taught to each student. As they grow in age and cognizance, more complex teachings are imparted to them and when they reach the 10th grade, the students are not only Muhaifz of the Holy Quran but also are proficient in the worldly knowledge which allows them to be at par with the students of other schools.
